Alaria Flakes

Alaria Flakes are very mild in flavour and therefore can be sprinkled over many dishes, both sweet and savoury. They work really well sprinkled over a stir fry or into a pasta dish. It also works well to add it to porridge during the cooking phase. The midrib that runs through can be a little bit chewy if not broken down completely whereas the frond (leaf section) is very light and delicate.

Due to the rich calcium content of Alaria it is a great addition to smoothies and breakfast bowls. It also contains rich concentrations of magnessium and potassium which are considered brain-food and therefore are great nutrients for early in the day.

Alaria also contains iodine which is very good for the thyroid and therefore good for our metabolism. Using seaweeds that are rich in iodine is best done in small doses regularly, a teaspoon of Flaked Alaria to any dish is a good way to start using it.

This beautiful brown seaweed can grow up to 3 metres in length and has a sturdy midrib to protect it from the lashing Atlantic waves. Alaria has a distinctive aroma, not unlike tea and due to its pleasantly mild and salty flavour, it can be used in many dishes, both sweet and savoury. This seaweed is rich in iodine which is health-promoting for the thyroid and therefore, pure goodness for our metabolism.

Did you know that Alaria contains 3 times as much magnesium as the superfood Kale?
